Record-breaking 20th Mossley SOUP event
More than £2,000 was raised at Mossley SOUP #20 – yet again showing that good things happen when people unite in positivity.
On Thursday 16 October, we hosted our twentieth Mossley SOUP event, sponsored by Premier Kia. More than 180 diners attended, with each person donating £5 in return for soup, entertainment, presentations from four local projects and a vote.
The event once again took place at Emmaus Mossley with local band, The Spring Chickens, welcoming diners as they arrived. After delicious soup and bread was served, attendees listened to four short project presentations, with each presenter answering four questions from the audience.
The projects presented at this event were 1st Mossley Scout Group, Mossley Hollins Wellbeing Room, Thompson Cross Community Kitchen and Trumpet Choir. After the presentations, diners cast their votes, a fundraising raffle was drawn and then the winning project was announced.
Mossley Hollins Wellbeing Room, a project to transform and create an improved wellbeing room within the school, secured the most votes and received £2,187 raised on the night.
Thea Smith-Heeley, a student at Mossley Hollins High School and one of the three presenters of the project, said: “We are so grateful for everyone who came to listen and vote for our pitch on Thursday, and for the amazing organisers who made it all possible. This will allow us to transform our wellbeing room, and it means the world to us and our fellow students that we have the opportunity to make such a big change in our school.”
The funds raised and secured for Mossley Hollins Wellbeing Room came from donations on the door, a raffle, a £250 donation from Mossley Town Council, a £250 donation from Emmaus Mossley and £100 from Premier Kia. The three runners-up also received £100 each towards their projects from event sponsor Premier Kia.
Four freshly made soups were prepared by local volunteers Danny, Daz and Richard. Soup ingredients were donated by A Taylor & Son Family Butchers, Co-op Mossley and Tesco Greenfield, and cakes were donated by event attendees.
Raffle prizes were kindly donated by Anthony Barton Independent Family Funeral Service, local artists Phil Craven and Chris Cyprus, Garratt’s Wine Vault, Hatch Bakery, Manchester Candle Makers, Mossley AFC, Suki’s Wardrobe, Stax of Soul promoter Tim, The Blossom and Brew Bar, and The Vale.
We are now appealing for creative or artistic projects to apply to present at our next themed event, taking place on Thursday 19 February 2026.
