Monday Club marvels at Mossley SOUP #22
Mossley Monday Club for disabled adults delivered the winning presentation at our summer Mossley SOUP event.
On Thursday 18 June, our team of volunteers hosted the 22nd Mossley SOUP community crowdfunding event at Emmaus Mossley. More than 140 diners were in attendance, donating £5 each in return for soup, entertainment, presentations and a vote.
At the event, diners heard four four-minute presentations from local groups and projects, each followed by four questions from the audience.
The projects presented were Crafty Kidz Mossley, Hilary Harry and Friends Wildlife Rescue, Mossley Monday Club and St John’s Beginner Band. After the presentations, diners cast their votes, a fundraising raffle was drawn and then the winning project was announced.
Mossley Monday Club, a weekly social club for disabled adults hosted at Mossley AFC, secured the most votes and received £1,850 raised on the night.
Michelle Phillips, Mossley Monday Club volunteer and project presenter, said: “I would like to thank everyone for their support at Mossley SOUP. We cannot thank everyone enough.
“To present there was a little nerve wracking but the Mossley SOUP volunteers were very supportive and the audience were all so friendly and kind.
“Winning at this event really means a lot to the Monday Club as it will give our members a chance to learn a new skill and be part of a community. Alongside this we can now guarantee a pantomime event at Christmas, providing a fully inclusive evening of entertainment.”
The funds raised and secured for Mossley Monday Club came from donations on the door, a raffle, £333 donated by Mossley Town Council, £200 from Emmaus Mossley and £100 from Anthony Barton Independent Family Funeral Service. The three runners-up also received £100 each towards their projects from Emmaus Mossley’s Solidarity Committee.
Four freshly made soups were prepared by local volunteers Danny, Darren and Jiri. Bread was donated by Tesco Greenfield and cakes were donated by event attendees. Raffle prizes were kindly donated by Hatch Bakery, Manchester Candle Makers, Millstone Brewery, Mossley AFC, Sarah Fina, Suki’s Wardrobe, The Vale and The Veg Lord.
Michelle added: “I can only urge other community groups to apply, not only for the chance of much needed funding but a chance to meet other groups who are as passionate for their cause as I am. I met some lovely people at this event who have come forward to support us further. Again, thank you on behalf of all our members.”
Project ideas with a Mossley connection are being sought from individuals, artists, community groups, charities and businesses for our next event, taking place on Thursday 22 October 2026.
